A useful discard can help one hand while changing the other. Take a moment to look at both before choosing your call.
Choose a rack when you call
In Siamese, you still call a discard to complete a matching group of three or more, or to win a hand. You also choose which rack receives the exposure. That group stays with that rack.
Before calling, check both hands. A tile you use in one exposure will no longer be available to the other hand.
You may save natural tiles for your other hand
You may use jokers to complete an exposure even when you hold the natural tiles. That can help when your other hand needs those natural tiles for a pair, where jokers are not allowed.
In this example, use a joker with rack 1's 6 Dot and the discard. That keeps the two natural 6 Dots on rack 2 for its pair.
In TileClack, Hold back naturals lets you make this choice on the call sheet. Check the group and destination rack before confirming.

Save jokers when the naturals are spare
On the next call, your other hand needs no 8 Dots. Use the natural 8 Dots for the exposure and keep your joker for a group that needs it.
Both choices are legal. The useful question is what your two hands together still need, and that will change from one call to the next.
Remember
Choose the rack, then choose the tiles. Jokers can help you save naturals for the other hand.
